Major airlines offer direct flights to Auckland from Australia, USA, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and Chile. Connecting flights from these countries link New Zealand with the rest of the world.

Most international flights arrive into Auckland Airport, located in the northern part of the North Island.

Flying from North America and Canada

If you are located on or near the West Coast or Canada, there are many routes to Auckland. Air New Zealand operate several direct flights from Vancouver, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Houston, each leaving in the evening, taking about 12 hours, (14 from Vancouver) and arriving in New Zealand in the morning allowing the opportunity to sleep most of the way.

Flying from South America

It is possible to fly directly from Buenos Aires or Santiago in about 12 hours where you can connect with other destinations within Latin America.

Flying from Europe

The shortest route from Europe is to fly to the USA and then across the Atlantic. Airlines such as Air New Zealand and Lufthansa offer these routes with stops in cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The other option is to head west over Asia, often with refuelling / transit stops in cities such as Dubai, Qatar, Hong Kong, Bangkok or Singapore.

Flying from Asia

There are a large number of carriers with routes out of SE Asia to New Zealand such as Qantas (via Australia) Singapore Airlines from Bangkok and Singapore, Malaysian Airlines from Kuala Lumpur and Air New Zealand and Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong.
