ICMIF will once again be running a Young Leaders Programme for members at the 2019 ICMIF Biennial Conference in Auckland, New Zealand (12-15 November).

This unique programme is designed for young professionals (generally aged between 18 and 35) from mutual, cooperative and member-owned insurers who have been identified by their seniors as strong candidates to become future leaders within their organisations. It will give them the chance to attend the full ICMIF Conference at a discounted fee as well as participate in exclusive breakfast sessions and networking events designed specifically to meet their interests.

The first ICMIF Young Leaders Programme was held alongside the 2017 Biennial Conference in London, UK, and was attended by 55 young leaders from 31 member companies in 16 countries. The event was hugely successful and received excellent feedback both from the young leader attendees and from their senior managers who had sent them to attend the programme in London.

Those participating in the next Young Leaders Programme in Auckland will have the chance to learn from and collaborate with peers at other ICMIF member companies and also enjoy the chance to network with CEOs, senior executives, industry leaders and key external influencers from around the world.

The programme will provide an excellent opportunity for ICMIF members to both develop and reward their younger and high potential employees, exposing them to wider issues impacting the insurance industry, strategic best-practice and mutuality on a global scale.

The Young Leaders Programme includes:

  • Three exclusive sessions for young leaders: an introductory session on Tuesday 12 November afternoon and two breakfast sessions before the start of the main plenary sessions of the ICMIF Conference on Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 November, featuring roundtable discussions with a number of ICMIF member CEOs.
  • A private welcome reception and other networking events designed for young leaders only.
  • Full access to all plenary sessions and social events of the conference, where young leaders have the chance to learn from and network with CEOs and senior leaders.
  • The possibility of being selected as a speaker in a conference plenary session.
  • A 50% discount on the full conference delegate fee.

“The conference gave me an incredible exposure to networking opportunities with delegates ranging from CEOs to Young Leaders. I have already seen the value of the relationships that I built and have been in touch with a few of the people I met to share ideas and insights from our own companies.”

Phillippa Joll, Commercial Insurance Consultant Team Leader, FMG (New Zealand)

“Participating in the Young Leaders Programme was an incredible experience. The programme had a perfect blend of opportunities to connect with peers from other member organisations as well as the opportunity to learn alongside leaders who are shaping the world stage through innovative
new techniques.”

Dan Wanous, Director of Business Development, Thrivent Advisor Network, Thrivent Financial (USA)

“The activities for the Young Leaders Programme allowed me to network, to build relationships, and to learn from the stories and experiences of other ICMIF members. I loved the opportunity given to us to pick the minds of CEOs and senior leaders in the industry on the various questions that we have.”

Jackelyn Ballena, Vice President for Operations - Life Division, 1CISP (Philippines)

“The insights of different markets, the exciting discussions and the unique networking opportunities helped me to start thinking outside the box. Looking back, the face-to-face-exchanges in an international environment have significantly enhanced my communication skills and had a considerable influence on the size and diversity of my network.”
Dominic Santschi, Product Manager, La Mobilière (Switzerland)

“The Young Leaders Programme was an insightful and thoroughly enjoyable experience as it gave me the opportunity to meet like-minded people, share experiences and bounce ideas around of how to make a difference in the companies we work in. Being exposed to the types of challenges facing mutual and cooperative insurers at a very high and international level gave a whole different perspective. Overall I would highly recommend the Young Leaders Programme to anyone who is open to new ideas, people and cultures.”
Louise Adams, Business Change Manager, NFU Mutual (UK)

“The ICMIF Young Leaders Programme in 2017 was a very significant opportunity for us [Zenrosai] to exchange opinions and ideas with other ICMIF organizations, both foreign and domestic. These discussions really inspired us, and on our return to Japan, many of us started new initiatives such as setting up a voluntary studying group to keep exploring new opportunities and expanding our potential. We sincerely appreciate the wonderful opportunity and experience that ICMIF had given us. I believe that this programme is very useful for ICMIF members to cultivate their young employees' talents with the hope that it will lead to the further development of the co-operative and mutual insurance movement around the world.”
Yoshikazu Sato, Research and Public Relations Division, Zenrosai (Japan)
